Day to day I go out photographing for the Morning Sentinel with the desire of seeing something new. My philosophy for what a newspaper should be, is, tell me something I dont know and show me something I dont see. With that idea, I challenge myself to the point of frustration, looking for something different while photographing someone shovelling his driveway once again. I remind myself that its easier to discover those moments and images, the more I hold the camera to my eye, as compared to just walking on by.
My image of a father and son who were shovelling their drive, is proof of this approach. I stopped because I was desperate, and I captured a moment because I stopped. What I imagined as a shovelling snow photograph turned into a picture of a father and son sharing a short time together, before the father gets shipped back out to serve in the Air Force Reserves. Sometime there are great stories behind a simple snow feature, if I just remember to stop and be a witness. __ More >
